If you’re like me, you spend hours everyday thinking about your dream life where you have unlimited money and access to everything your heart desires, kinda like that game we all played as kids.
But then, you snap back into reality, and you’re back in the life where you’re working an okay job, wearing okay jobs, and going back to an okay home.
So how do you feel like your Dream Self and create your dream life when everything is just…okay?
It’s all in the feelings.
Confused? Lemme break it down first.
Have you ever imagined your dream guy? Maybe he’s like 6’3” with abs and amazing hair. He’s got great style and enough money to treat you on amazing dates. He’s super charming and always knows the perfect thing to say.
But then you happen to go on a date with this guy, and it all goes wrong.
He talks about himself the entire time, and he thinks he’s hot ish. He’s offering you gym advice (you didn’t ask), and he asks you to split the check. He sucks at communication, and he hasn’t cried since he was 13.
Turns out, he’s not all you thought he was. But how could you have known that?
Sometimes, we focus too much on the thing: perfect house, luxury car, stellar wardrobe, etc. We really need to be focusing on the emotions we want from those things.
How to Create Your Dream Life in 24 Hours
ACTION STEP 1: Identify your Dream Self Emotions
Ask yourself, “How does my Dream Self feel?”
Think about specific areas in your life like your finances, your relationships, your career, etc.
My own Dream Self feels secure financially and free to spend on things and experiences that make her happy. She also feel loved, cared for, and nurtured in her personal relationships. Her career gives her space to be creative and explore, without restrictions and limitations.
So, how does your Dream Self feel?
ACTION STEP 2: Recreate your Dream Self Feelings
Okay, so maybe you haven’t created your dream job yet, and maybe you don’t have your dream home. But how can we trick ourselves into feeling like we do?
First, why is even important?
Change takes time.
You won’t wake up overnight in your dream life. At least not the one you’re dreaming of. It’s going to take daily actions that get you there over time. But while you’re getting there, you can feel like you’re living the dream.
You just have to make your brain feel like you’re already there. Think about those specific feelings you listed before. How can you make yourself feel those feelings now? How can you feel secure, loved, and creative, even if just for a moment?
Here are some things I like to do:
- Text a friend and schedule a chat
- Buy yourself something off your wishlist that is going to make life easier or make you feel better
- Spend time with a hobby that lets you create for the sake of creating
- If you’re having trouble, aim to feel the Dream Self emotion for just 5 minutes just to normalize it a bit.
ACTION STEP 3: Rinse & Repeat Your Way into Your Dream Life
Now that you have come up some ways to recreate your Dream Self emotions, it’s time to do it again And again. And again. We want to be in the daily habit of feeling like our Dream Selves, even if the mode of the emotion isn’t what we were originally thinking of. Then, as you feel into your Dream Self more, you will take more Dream Self actions that will expand your life in all the ways you’ve been dreaming of.
So what do you do now?
Write down 3 things you will do tomorrow that will leave you feeling like your Dream Self. They can be hobbies or other things that will leave you feeling those emotions you identified earlier.
