Self care should make your life easier and give you space for more fun. In today’s post, I’m sharing some simple self care ideas that will make your life wayyyy easier and are pretty quick to implement.
Let’s get started!
Self Care Idea #1: The 10 Minute Tidy
My night routine has been SUCH a game changer, and the 10 Minute Tidy is one of my favorite parts. Waking up to a tidy space makes me feel much better about starting my day. Since I do the tidy every night, huge messes rarely accumulate, and it gets easier every time.
Every night, I set a timer for 10 minutes and just tidy up as much as possible. I put dirty clothes in the hamper, take any mugs or plates to the kitchen, throw out any trash, and run over my floors quickly with my Swiffer WetJet.
You don’t have to do this at night, if you’d rather do it at lunch time, when you get off work, or any other time that works better for you. Also, the time is flexible. I usually opt for a “Fifteen Minute Tidy,” even though I rarely need that much time. If I finish before the timer goes off, I usually spend some time playing a game on my phone or something else fun.
Self Care Idea #2: Staying Hydrated
Most of the time, if I feel myself getting a headache or just a #mood in general, I can trace it back to a lack of water. I actually really enjoy drinking water, but when my days are really busy, it’s easy for me to forget or deprioritize staying hydrated.
To make hydration easier, I found a cup that would be easy to drink water at larger quantities without having to refill too often. I love my 30 oz. Stanley, but there are so many other tumblers and cups that you can use, as well.
I also like to add a little salt or lemon juice to my water to help with hydration and cut down on those annoying (and sometimes embarrassing) trips to the bathroom.
Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE a sugary drink. If I want some sweet tea or a soda throughout the day, I go for it. I just try to match my intake with a similar amount of water right after. Note: I’m not a nutritionist or doctor, just a girl who loves Coke.
Self Care Idea #3: Morning Fun Time
My day feels soooo much better when I start it by taking time for myself. I know it can feel difficult and sometimes impossible, especially when you’re rushing for work all morning (my night routine should help with that), but even just giving yourself 5 minutes and building from there will do so much good. If nothing else, it will help you begin to prioritize yourself in a way that builds your confidence and strengthens your motivation when it comes to your goal.
My morning fun time changes depending on my schedule for the week, but one of my favorite routines is scrolling through Pinterest while I drink my morning coffee. Somedays, I use extra time to do some cozy gaming, or I have a solo dance party in my room before getting ready for work (or while I get ready).
This one is all you! The only thing that matters is that you’re doing something simply for the sake of having fun.
Self Care Idea #4: Nightly Prep
If you’ve been in the Gentler community for a minute, you’ve probably seen me preach about getting prepped the night before. Even just choosing your outfit earlier allows you to sleep in a little, save some brain power, and ease into your morning more gently.
My nightly prep includes getting out my clothes for the next day (don’t forget underwear!), filling my Stanley cup, charging my devices, and other things that will take stuff off Future Maya’s plate and let her relax a little in the morning. Ask yourself what takes up unnecessary time in the morning, and find some way to take care of it for Future You.
To sum it up…
There are so many self care ideas that will help you make life smoother. I know you’ll be able to take at least one of these ideas and implement it in your own life today.
